Contributing to society and pursuing a career as a consultant: what’s that like?

‘It feels very rewarding, especially in times like these, to make the Netherlands safer.'

Social Contribution
Lotte also likes the fact that she is contributing to society. She joined Deloitte eight years ago after studying healthcare. ‘I have worked a lot in healthcare and in the public sector at Deloitte. One of my projects, for example, was setting up a digital healthcare platform in the Rotterdam region. I found it very cool because you really collaborate with hospitals, general practitioners, and long-term care institutions to improve the entire healthcare chain, so that healthcare providers can work better together and patients can benefit from it,’ says Lotte, who is now a manager of sustainability & climate. She continues: ‘Many people do not find the word ‘implementation’ or ‘practical’ very appealing, but I get energized by not only dealing with strategy but also answering the ‘how.’ How can the client implement the strategy? That is often complex. My efforts are not just in vain; I can really make an impact.’

Collaboration
In projects like these, it is essential to combine different areas of expertise, which is why they always collaborate with multidisciplinary teams at Deloitte. Sven Dalessi says, ‘We join forces to approach everything from different angles to achieve the best results for our clients. Sometimes you are in a team of twenty people, the other time you work with just three. This also keeps things diverse, and you keep developing yourself.’ Self-development can indeed go hand in hand with a moral ambition, both professionals believe. ‘I hope to be able to grow in sustainability. And that in the future, all our projects are sustainable and have a sustainability component. That would be my vision for the future’, Lotte says.
