Rainbow Family Policy: leave options for all
Every parent at Deloitte should have the opportunity to take care of their new child(ren). Our new Rainbow Family Policy ensures this by extending parental leave rights to parents in non-traditional family structures, helping to build a more inclusive workplace for our LGBTIQ+ colleagues.
About Rebecca
Rebecca Pehlivan is a Partner within the Global Trade Advisory Team (Tax & Legal). ‘When our son was born, I took a two-day birth leave – which was the official number of days at the time – without even considering whether that was in line with Deloitte’s policy. We are a family with two mums, and as I was not the mother giving birth, I took the regular partner leave. In our situation that was an option, but I realise that there are various family constructs for which the standard policy does not apply. I am proud that Deloitte acknowledges this and facilitates equal opportunities for all parents so that everyone is able to enjoy this special time with their families.’
About Tim
Tim van der Pas has been working at Deloitte since October 2017. He started as an Junior Learning & Development Specialist and since 2023 he is a Manager Learning & Development. He is also a co-lead of the Proud at Deloitte network. Tim is very pleased with the new policy. ‘These guidelines are very supportive.’
‘My partner and I would love to have children, but not yet’, Tim says. ‘As it takes considerable time before you actually have a baby – whether it’s through a surrogate mother or adoption – this is something that you have to think through carefully. The Rainbow Family Policy does not accelerate the process, but it’s very supportive. It assures me that Deloitte gives these matters plenty of thought and offers equal leave options for everyone. That takes away so much stress when you actually become a father.’
‘I’m proud that we make small but significant changes with a huge impact. You only need to look at the steps we have taken in the last few months, such as Inclusive toilets in the office, Transitioning guidelines, and LGBTIQ+ trusted advisors.’
